Woodturning - Pen Making Course

introduction

This is a one day course for anyone who wants to learn the art of pen making and objets d'art from project kits. If you are thinking of buying a small lathe or have a lathe, this is the course for you. Gaining a real insight into what can be achieved, after one day you will be able to leave with the completed, professionally finished masterpieces and a multitude of ideas and skills.



what you will learn
A step by step guide from selecting materials, drilling and gluing , the best ways of mounting the work piece, the tools used, and the best ways to polish an array of different materials including timber and acrylics. Demonstrating all the techniques you will need, this course will help you achieve a professional end product without making all the mistakes along the way.




teaching method
This is a ‘hands on’ course, each student being able to work at their own pace. The course will be led by the tutor who will both demonstrate and explain the techniques to the group as a whole and individuals as required.




additional notes & course availability
All materials for set projects, including pen blanks, project kits, abrasives and finishes are supplied, as is tea/coffee and a light lunch. Please check the course calendar for availability. Course hours will run from 9am - 5pm.

There is no upper age limit for students, however the minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours.
