Woodturning - Introduction to the Turned Box Course

introduction

Using your established working knowledge of the wood lathe, this course seeks to reveal the mystic art of the turned wooden box. This one day course explains how to achieve professional results with step by step guidance, from the selection of materials through to the final polishing, each stage explained carefully so that the magic of this art is achievable.

The tutor for this course is Jason Breach, who made his first turned box at Parnham House at the age of fourteen. The intervening twenty years of practice and refinement allows him to pass on and explain these skills revealing not only the magic but also the pit falls which often cause problems and spoil the magic.

what you will learn
How to select and prepare your materials and how to mount them on the lathe. The safe use of the range of tools used to achieve the finished box and the methods of sanding and polishing on and off the lathe. This course will introduce you to the turned wooden box and provide you with the skills which started Jason on the road to making countless valuable and beautifully crafted boxes. The course emphasis is on practical turning with a high degree of hands on tuition.
