For a number of years we have been asked to provide an introductory course for small project metal machining for engineers, so here it is.
An intensive course, run for two days with a maximum of 4 students and will introduce the student to the techniques required for an engineer's mill. Aimed at the complete beginner, the course will provide a step by step guide of how to set up and use the machine safely and constructively.
4 students are taught in a group during this course.
The introduction to milling option will cover:
- How and why to vary mill speeds
- Correct feed speeds to suit materials
- How to fix and hold work on the mill table using vices and clamps
- Different machining methods to include end milling, slot cutting, face cutting
- The use of dividing heads, rotary tables and angle plates

Course hours will run from 9am-5pm (including approximately half an hour for lunch).
All materials for set projects are included in the cost, as is tea/coffee and a light lunch on both days. Please check the course calendar for availability. Course hours will run from 9am - 5pm.
There is no upper age limit for students, however the minimum age is 14 years old and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course and must not be left unattended during class hours.
