About the Skill Centre

history
Axminster Tool Centre has been providing courses on a regular basis since the late '90s and in that time has taught a wide diversity of customers. Many of these students have gone on to develop their aptitude for a specific craft, often returning to enrol on further courses to refresh or build on those skills, or just to maintain the link with us, knowing that we are always willing to provide the knowledge and know how, along with the tools and equipment, to help them develop and extend their expertise and craftsmanship.

The late John Legg founded our original woodturning courses in the former company offices above the original shop premises in Chard Street, here in Axminster, Devon. Quickly outgrowing these premises, the facility was then moved to a larger venue before moving in 2004 to a purpose built and equipped course room at the new Axminster Tool Centre retail shop at the opposite end of the town, close to Axminster railway station. The skill centre has now moved again, to a suite of 5 workshops on the main Axminster site at Millwey Industrial Estate.

At this time the course facility adopted the new title of the Axminster Skill Centre. The purpose of the Skill Centre will always remain and that is to provide a learning centre for our existing customers as well as for anyone, experienced or beginners, that have the aspiration to take up or further their knowledge and skills in the field of woodworking or its associated crafts.

about the Axminster Skill Centre
The Axminster Skill Centre is fitted out with an extensive range of tools and machinery. Our courses are run by experienced tutors who offer students a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.

All courses are designed to guide the student through their chosen subject in a clear, informative and enjoyable manner with plenty of hands on experience. On many of the courses students produce projects, samples and test pieces that can be kept as keepsakes!
Generally courses are run to accommodate groups of no more than five or six students to ensure that they will receive a high standard of tuition, while working in a well equipped and regularly updated, friendly environment.

The Skill Centre caters for a wide range of courses and more will be added in the future. We always welcome feedback and comments from all of our students and your suggestions and ideas are used extensively in the development of all new courses. Click here to send us your feedback and suggestions!

The Axminster Skill Centre is situated conveniently on the outskirts of the town with nearby parking and close to Axminster railway station. Please click here to visit our local information pages for more details.
